Car Seat Safety

Filed under: General — Tags: — Jennifer @ 2:05 am

These days many people take car seats for granted. However for many people these seats are a recent development that was not in use when they were children. What is all the fuss about needing kids in car seats? Many would find it odd now but not that many years ago car seats and even seat belts were rarely used.

Unfortunately it was the result of many children being maimed for life or killed in car accidents that spurred the interest in developing car seats as early as the 1930’s. What is all the fuss about needing kids in car seats.

By the mid 80’s car seats were becoming very common. While these car seats were not the greatest in the way of safety they helped. Today great car seat companies produce car seats like the Britax Boulevard seat . These great seats are built to really keep your kids safe. They have taken the accumulated knowledge of the past years and designed some excellent child restraint systems.

It is a completely new type of car seat then many have used in the past. The technology that has gone into these seats has improved the side impact protection and the overall comfort of the seat.

More car seats today are designed to be convertible from rear facing to forward facing allowing you to buy one car seat that will last most of the time your child will need to be in a car seat or booster. For example many child safety seats like the Britax Boulevard allow the child to be in the seat up to 65 pounds.

The design and technology put into child restraint systems today is very advanced and it has enabled many lives to be saved  each year. Yet it is critical that you buckle them in and tighten the harnesses right . The best technology will not overcome a lose harness that allows the child slip out.

Use care when buckling in your children, do not let the daily routine let you become careless and overlook buckling the harness properly.

How to Know When Your Baby is Teething

A teething baby isn’t usually a happy baby. The bad news is that they seem to be perpetually teething in the first two years or so. This can make it hard to figure out whether there’s a new tooth emerging or if there’s another problem altogether. Here are few things to look for to help you figure out if a tooth is getting ready to show itself.

If your baby seems like he or she is getting a cold, it might in fact be teething. When the teeth come in, they sometimes put pressure on the baby’s sinuses or ear canals. This creates the appearance of having a cold. You might only notice some minor sinus congestion or it could be as severe as a painful ear infection.

Some people aren’t aware that baby teething can lead to ear infections. Ear infections can be a result of the new teeth causing pressure to the baby’s ear canal. This causes fluid to back up and become infected. An ear infection will need to be treated as soon as possible to prevent any permanent damage to the ear drum.

As well, your baby might experience fever when the teeth are coming in. But keep in mind that normal teething doesn’t cause a high fever. If your baby develops a high fever at any time, don’t ignore it. There could be a chance that either an ear infection or sinus infection has developed. You’ll need to take your baby to its pediatrician to be examined and see if a prescription is in order.

When your little one is teething, there will be several other symptoms you can look for. For example, red cheeks usually accompany this process. You might notice that one cheek is red and the other is normal; chances are the new tooth will emerge on the side that’s red.

Excessive drooling is one more symptom of teething. Babies are always drooling anyway, but when they’re teething it becomes extreme. The drooling might be so excessive that you have to change your baby’s outfits all the time due to dampness.

If your baby is constantly crying and showing signs of discomfort, it’s possible that teething is to blame. Excessive crying is one of the hardest teething symptoms to deal with. This is usually accompanied by difficulty sleeping. Either of these situations will be uncomfortable for both you and your baby.

Most people who offer you baby advice will suggest that you give your child some pain reliever to ease the symptoms. However, discuss the situation with your doctor before administering any medications, even over the counter ones.

What Is The Purpose Of Baby Shower Parties?

Filed under: Baby Showers — Gwen @ 6:00 pm

If you’ve just been invited to a baby shower party and you’ve never been to one before, and you’re really not looking forward to going, you should know the purpose of having these types of parties. First of all, you’re celebrating the coming of the perfect little boy, girl, twins, triplets, or whatever the mother is having. Secondly, you’re providing much needed gifts that will help the mother and father out immensely during the child’s first few months, and thirdly, you’re showering the new mother to be with much needed attention that she deserves after carrying this baby inside of her for so long. If nothing else, you should go because it’s a party; and who doesn’t like parties?

The Coming Baby or Babies

When a child is born into this world, it’s a miracle. A perfect boy or girl, or twins, triplets, and so on, is formed inside the mother and there is nothing more beautiful, perfect and amazing than the pregnancy and birth of a child. This is the main reason for baby shower parties. It’s to celebrate this miracle of birth.

Much Needed Gifts

When you give a gift at a baby shower party, you are giving the parents to be much needed help and assistance. Good baby shower party gifts include diapers, cribs, strollers, clothes, bottles, formula, and everything else they’ll need during the child’s first few months. All of these items can be very expensive and the parents could more than likely use the help with the bulk of these items. So when giving a gift at a baby shower party, make sure you keep this in mind when choosing the perfect gift.

Showering The New Mother With Attention

Baby shower parties are likely called showers because of all the attention you’re showering the mother to be with. This woman has carried a baby inside of her for a long time now and that can be very draining. The baby is heavy, she’s gained weight, she’s gone through hormone fluctuations, cravings, her back hurts, and that’s just a part of it. She needs all the attention she can get. That’s why baby shower parties are so important. Her friends, family, coworkers and anyone else who knows her should show up and give her all the attention she needs. This is her baby shower party and she deserves every bit of it for the miracle that she’s taking part in.
