Is your new baby due soon? There may be much to prepare. This can be an exciting and rewarding time for the whole family. It can also be a very challenging time. There will be a new family member. Some members may be too young to understand. This may take a bit of forethought.

The age of the new siblings will determine the strategy to use. Older children realize what is going on. It may not be too much trouble. Younger siblings may present a great deal more of a challenge.

Make sure that the children are aware of things. Do not wait until they see baby cribs or other baby things. Let them know as soon as you can. They can sense if you are talking about things. This can leave them feeling left out. They may also feel resentment if they cannot feel or touch the new baby’s things. If the other children are very young, you can delay the new nursery for a few months. It may give them a little time to mature. You will have more time to explain the situation to them, also.

When you start the new nursery, allow the children to help. It does not have to be much. Maybe they can hand you items. Ask their opinion about matters. They will not be as likely to damage things, if they worked on them also. Some children may have to rearrange their living conditions. Help them to understand that a loft bed is for big children like them. They deserve an improved bed.

Are you going to bottle feed the baby? Involve the other children. They can be a part of the process. Children can help you to prepare the bottles ahead of time. Let them hand you things. Praise the children for their wonderful help. You may find that the work is easier by yourself. However, there are tiny egos to consider. Those egos can be fragile and easily damaged.

Sit down with your child and spend quality time. Look at catalogs with them and dream. It doesn’t matter what you look at. It can be new cars or Husqvarna chainsaws. What matters, is the time you spend together. Let the child talk and tell you his or her dreams.

Conclusion

You may have a new baby in the family soon. Remember that little eyes and egos will watch your every move. Include them in all that you do. It will make a difference.
